Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:77.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/77.0

Steps to reproduce:

Open Thunderbird 77b3.

Actual results:

In the German version, there are still a lot of non-localized parts in Thunderbird beta (and this has been for quite a while now).

Here's a list of examples I found:

In main window:

main menu > datei > open
main menu > bearbeiten > cut/copy/paste
main menu > bearbeiten > suchen > global search
message view > context menu > select all/copy
settings > privacy + security
account settings > end-to-end encryption

In message compose window (the first one is especially annoying):

label From/To/Subject
main menu > bearbeiten > undo/redo/cut/copy/paste
context menu > undo/cut/copy/paste

Is there any place, where I can help translating, without going into the source code? Like pontoon.mozilla.org, but I couldn't find Thunderbird there...

Expected results:

At some point, the localization should be complete. Have been waiting for it for some time now.

Thanks for offering to help. Your starting point is https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/get-involved/#translation ... which leads to the correct link for pontoon.

I think Translation big deadlines for Thunderbird are the major releases, for example version 78

Thanks for your response. I know pontoon but I can't find a German (de) localization. There's a link "Request new locale", which leads to bugzilla. So, is this bug report enough to get the German localization added, or do I have to create new bug report using the given template?

Yeah, I don't know why German is missing from https://pontoon.mozilla.org/projects/thunderbird/

Let's ping someone

Component: Untriaged → de / German
Flags: needinfo?(aryx.bugmail)
Product: Thunderbird → Mozilla Localizations
Version: 77 → unspecified

Thunderbird is not localized via Pontoon, but via Mercurial. A change on that would depend on the current maintainer.

In that case, our documentation at https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/get-involved/#translation is incorrect

Flags: needinfo?(aryx.bugmail) → needinfo?(ryan)

It covers the general case, and I think the solution would be to enable German on Pontoon instead. Note that Spanish (es-ES) is in the same boat, but I think that's it.

Brad, apparently the starting point for getting involved in localization is https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Projects/Thunderbird/Thunderbird_Localization Sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, I'll reopen this for comment 0. But you should judge the current localization status by using 78 beta.

Ok. Actaully, the missing translations have been fixed in the latest 78 beta. Making the localization available on Pontoon in the future would be good thing, though.
