User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; rv:74.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/74.1

Steps to reproduce:

I'm using the latest FF as of 6/5/20. The toolbar icon to "email a link to this page" is not working. It hasn't worked for some time through several previous versions, although it did work intermittently a few months ago. I was never able to predict whether it would work or not, and it hasn't worked for months.

Actual results:

When I click the icon, the menu above grays out, but nothing happens. I have T-bird as my application for mailto, and T-bird is installed and working fine. I restarted FF with all add ons disabled and got the same result.

Expected results:

I expected a mail message to open with the link included in the text.

Thanks for any help. Nothing insecure or urgent here.

Hi bob!
I was unable to reproduce this issue on latest Nightly version 79.0a1 (2020-06-11) on Windows 10, "Email a link this page" works without any issue.
Could you please try to reproduce it on latest Nightly and tell us your input? You can download here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/
If you still have the problem, could you please attach your about:support data? (Help > troubleshooting information > click "copy raw data to clipboard" button)

Thank you for responding. I followed your instructions, downloaded the nightly, found the email link, moved it to the right place, and clicked (first having opened some web page so I had something to email). And...nothing happened. I did notice on the way that Thunderbird was was email program, if that helps at all. So, as instructed, I copied the raw troubleshooting data and I reproduce it here. LMK what else I can do to help.

Thank you for your test. Due to I can not reproduce it, I'll change the component to have a starting point of this. Please feel free to change it if it is not the correct one.

Component: Untriaged → Toolbars and Customization
  1. Is Thunderbird set as the Email program through Windows?
  2. When you go to the Firefox Preferences, and look for the mailto association, does it say "Use Thunderbird (default)"? I'm curious if the "(default)" part is there.

This may be the same bug as bug 1637790.

I didn't understand Marcela's last comment so I did nothing in response.

Jared: Yes, T-bird is the email program for Windows. And Yes, T-Bird is the program listed as the mailto assoction with the quote you cited appearing with the (default). This has always been true on my end as far as I know. I've used T-bird for years and never made a change anywhere.

Thanks to all for the responses.

It's many months later, and I'm using the current browser as of today. And the problem remains just as it was. Same whether I use FF with all my add ons or start it with add ons disabled. And T-bird is still my mail program.

Don't know what to suggest if you can't reproduce the problem, but I'm still hoping for a solution to this small, continuing problem.

Not sure that anyone is (or should still be) paying attention to this bug. But I'm using FF 90.0.2, and the email link is working again. It might have been working in a few previous versions too. I didn't always try a new version when it appeared. I only discovered it now works by accident. In any event, thanks to all who looked at this, and if this bug hasn't been closed, it can be as far as I am concerned.

Bob Gellman

Thank you for confirming us that now is working. I will close this as Resolved WFM based on your comment.
