User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:77.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/77.0

Steps to reproduce:

I am running Ubuntu 18.04 on two similar Dell laptops. This problem occurs on both.

I have "Ask me where to save Downloads" selected in my Preferences. This problem did not occur using v76.0.1. After the automatic update to v77.0.1, I can no longer download files.

Actual results:

When I select a file to download, the dialog box asking me to choose whether I want to View or Save the file opens. Save is the default selection so I click OK. I am no longer prompted where to save the file. When I open Tools > Downloads, there is nothing listed. If I change my preference to always save to the Downloads directory, the file is properly saved there.

Expected results:

When I select a file to download, the dialog box asking me to choose whether I want to View or Save the file opens. Save is the default selection so I click OK. A dialog box should open asking me where to save the file.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

Could you please help us finding when this broke?
You can use a tool called mozregression, that will automatically download Firefox builds and ask you to tell whether the build is good (bug is not present) or bad (bug is present). You can find it at https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/
In the end of the process it will produce a link to some changes, that will help us finding which code change caused the bug.

I tried to reproduce on Ubuntu 18.04 with Firefox 77.01, but I couldn't.

Currently at work and unable to access my home laptop. Will try later this evening.

My wife and I both use Ubuntu 18.04 on Dell laptops. Dell sold us the laptops with Ubuntu pre-installed. No Windows ever. And we routinely update using the Software Updater throughout the week.

I know that this process worked as expected on Firefox 76.0.1, and Ubuntu did not update us to 77.0, but straight to 77.0.1 as it was released by the time we were updated. We've only experienced this problem for a couple of days. Would the mozregression program really be of any help then?

Is there any log or test that I might try to provide more info? Or a way to turn one on?

mozregression doesn't use the build you have installed, it downloads new builds, and then at least we can check if you can reproduce in a freshly installed build with a fresh profile.

Hello! I have tried reproducing this issue using Firefox 77.0.1 and Firefox Nightly 79.0a1(2020-06-15) with ubuntu 18.04 LTS following the STR provided in the description but unfortunately I wasn't able to reproduce it.
Could you please provide some answers to the following questions?

  1. Does this issue occur with a fresh profile? Here is a link on how to create one: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox/Multiple_profiles
  2. Do you have any addons installed? If yes could you please provide a list?

Unfortunately we cannot proceed here without the information requested.
