No audio through PulseAudio when TEMPDIR is read-only

Steps to reproduce:
$TEMPDIR/$TMPDIR pointed to a filesystem that became readonly due to media error
Actual results:
Firefox could not play audio through PulseAudio.
Browser tabs wanting to play audio were not marked by a little speaker icon,
so I suspected a problem with the particular web page at first.
There was no error message.
Expected results:
At minimum, little speaker icons marking webpages that play audio keep working, making it way easier to understand the root cause of the missing audio.
