Attached image Flicker Example.gif

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:77.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/77.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Login to Gmail
  2. Mouse over something which seems to force a re-render of the page contents (i.e. one of the commands at the top, like 'refresh' or vertical dots for 'more'
  3. The contents of at least one item in the inbox should contain a subject or previewed contents which contains an emoji character.
  4. Was using dark mode theme.

Actual results:

The page re-renders but line-items with emojis flicker, which is irritating. It makes each re-render of that area of the page painfully obvious.

Expected results:

The page shouldn't flicker.

Hi,

Thanks for submitting this bug to us!

I was unable to reproduce this issue on my end, I tried on Windows 10, with Firefox Release 78.0.1 (64-bit) Nightly version 80.0a1 (2020-07-08) (64-bit)

Does this issue occur with a fresh profile as well? You can find the steps here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager

You can also try testing if the issue is reproducible in safe mode, here is a link that can help you:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Or you can also download Firefox Nightly from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/ , to see if the issue still occurs there as well.

Thanks in advance. I've already chosen a component for this bug in hope that someone with more expertise may look at it. We'll await their answer. If is not the correct component please feel free to change it to an appropriate one.

Regards,
Jerónimo.

Allen - if you could also please attach the contents of your about:support as a text file that would be appreciated.

Tried this on the 77 and nightly release with WR on and off, can't reproduce.

It's not clear which FF version fixed this issue, but I can no longer replicate the behavior in version 78.0.2.

You can close this issue as fixed.
