1647152 - Browser starting on blank page even if homepage is set to website

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:77.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/77.0

Steps to reproduce:

Setup this webstart as homepage : https://start.me
Close firefox
Restart Firefox

Actual results:

A blank page is shown and the start.me page dosen't show up.

Expected results:

The https://start.me page should have been shown, when I open firefox.

But, If I put http://start.me as an homepage, everything works as expected.

Hi anthony,
How did you set up that page to be your homepage?
In my case it works correctly if I visited the page (https://start.me), select the URL from the address bar and drag&drop it over the Home page button.

Hi,

I tried selecting the URL from the address bar (https://start.me) and drag&drop it over to the Home Page button, and it changed my home page fine.
However, when I boot up Firefox, I expect the page to be loaded, and it isn't. I just get a New Tab page instead of "https://start.me"
(You might have to start and close Firefox 2 times for it to "bug")

Hmm, tried it multiple times but didn't happen, sorry for the late response!
Is this still reproducible on your end? If yes, could you try it with a clean profile (https://goo.gl/AWo6h8), maybe even safe mode (https://goo.gl/AR5o9d)?

Yes, it is still reproductible on my end.
However, it is NOT reproductible in safe-mode, but it is reproductible with a clean profile.

Hi,
I'm facing a similar issue.
In my case I've not set any home page (New Tab as home page). When I load Firefox and go to gmail.com or mail.google.com or chat.google.com for the first time on any tab it shows a blank page. I loads the page fine all other times.

Looking at Bug 1659648 as a similar issue to this one. Can you please update to the latest Firefox Release 80.0 (64-bit) version and check it ou there?

Please submit a new issue for what you encountered. It would also be appreciated if you try out the clean profile (https://goo.gl/AWo6h8) and even safe mode (https://goo.gl/AR5o9d) and mention the results in the bug report. Also, make sure you are on the latest Firefox version.

The problem seems fixed in the latest release of Firefox (80.0), and the issue is the same as https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1659648
