Hello,

I’m not entirely sure what the issue is that you are encountering however I’m attaching a video of what I understood the bug might be.

In the video I clicked and held the mouse button while dragging down through the options of the “gear” menu in about:addons. The highlight on the cursor shows that the mouse button is held.

Could you please confirm that indeed that is the issue and in case it is not, please attach a screen recording.

Thank you !

I can't see the recording you attached.

This also applies to the main Firefox menu but this is a change made to about:addons when it was rewritten.

Arggghghhh. I have no idea how you delete an attachment. Bugzilla said that it failed and yet it worked anyway.

Can you post an image of the failure in about:addons?

I'm not sure what you're asking for. There's no error code. I'm assuming you want to see a recording of the bug in about:addons. By the way, I couldn't see Alex's recording. With just a quick search I found this: https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8092118 sounds similar.

I apolagize, apparently Bugzilla did not upload my attachment somehow. I’ve revisited the issue and made several recordings in the menus of Firefox (latest Nightly), Chrome and Windows Explorer.

Once you click and hold on a menu button (one which generates a drop down list with options) and while holding the mouse button pressed you go to the desired option and then release the mouse button, this happens:

  1. Windows Explorer: the option is selected and the drop down closes
  2. Chrome: the option is selected and the drop down closes
  3. Firefox: the option is not selected and the drop down menu remains open. Clicking outside the menu area closes it.

See the attached recordings for more details.

Mark, this looks similar to bug 1651510. The first menu item seems to remain "selected", as well as an additional layer that clicking on a menuitem doesn't appear to do what it should. Any thought on that?

Flags: needinfo?(mixedpuppy) → needinfo?(mstriemer)

Ok, I understand this bug now. The UI appearance is more bug 1651510, this bug is about a menuitem not reacting to mouseup.

This may be a more general firefox issue. The app menu also does not react to mouseup on a menuitem, however there are other menus where we do react to mouse-up. On osx at least, system menus do react to mouseup, so I think that our menus should behave that way.

str:

  • click-hold on a menu
  • drag down menu to highlight an entry
  • release mouse (resulting in mouseup only)

expected (?):

  • menuitem is triggered

actual:

  • menuitem is not triggered

:dao do you have any input for this issue? Should it go over to firefox as a general issue?

Flags: needinfo?(dao+bmo)

(In reply to Shane Caraveo (:mixedpuppy) (on PTO) from comment #17)

Should it go over to firefox as a general issue?

It looks like about:addons has some sort of custom HTML-only arrow panel implementation, so that would be responsible for handling mouseup events. We may need separate bugs for other parts of Firefox.
