Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:77.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/77.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Connect my macbook with Apple Thunderbolt Display and close macbook
  2. Try to join a meeting using meet.google.com

Actual results:

I get the error camera can not be opened

Expected results:

Camera from "Facetime camera (Display)" should have been opened.

I looked at other apps (Facetime, zoom ms team), these apps were able to use Facetime camera (Display). I also verified chrome. it was able to use "Facetime camera (Display)". With firefox & Display Camera, video doesn't start for me.

"System Information" showed two camera. but firefox only tries to use one camera only. I tried restarted system, restarting firefox, it didn't help

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

Just found that there is setting as well to change camera input for meet.google.com, There is option to change camera. so now, I am able to use display camera but I do have to change that setting every time, I change camera. but for safari & chrome, 2nd camera is being picked up by default.

Hi Dheeraj, what error are you seeing exactly? Are you able to reproduce that error here?

I am able to use display camera but I do have to change that setting every time, I change camera.

It is the site's responsibility to remember your chosen camera. I don't wanna debug Google Meet but it seems to work for me.

Does this site remember your camera for you?

I don't see issue with https://jan-ivar.github.io/dummy/gum.html. Now I don't see issue with meet.google.com either.

It happened only first time when I atached iMac Display. Once, I changed camera from meet.google.com, after that no issues are coming.

Since this reportedly only happened once, I'm not seeing a pattern to indicate there's a Firefox-specific compat problem here, rather than an error in the first browser attempted.

Unless someone else with an Apple Thunderbolt Display can reproduce this (I don't have one), I fear there is not enough information to act on here, and would recommend closing this issue.

I'm going to close this as incomplete. If anyone is able to repro, we can reopen it.
