As viewable from the attachment, the message list does not refresh properly. Even when all messages are marked as being read, or a message thread is closed. The attachment shows clearly that all messages are marked as read, yet the underlining remains. It also shows that the thread is closed, yet some of the messages, as well as the thread lines are still visible. I scrolled up and down on the list, no change. I brought up other programs to work on, and when I brought the newsreader to the front again, there was no change. When I clicked on one of the messages that shouldn't be visible, the newsreader brought up the message (see attachment 2 [details] [diff] [review]). Mozilla Build ID: 2002081209 Win 2000 SP 3

does this also happen when using default themes?
I also sometimes this strange display in mailnews, using classic theme. By the way, I think this bug is a dupe, but I cannot find which bug number :-/
Harald Gill, is this bug still an issue for you? Have you tried a current build of Mozilla (1.3, 1.4b)?
I don't know. I had to give up on Mozilla due to installation issues, banking issues(multiple posting of bank transactions, etc.(already reported elsewhere)), as well as minor display issues, such as this one. I am currently using Netscape 7.01 for most browsing, and IE 6 for all my important online transactions. I am using my own software for email, and am using either Outlook Express(usual), or Gravity(rare) for news. I realize Mozilla is only at version 1.x, but many of the issues I had should NEVER have come up, considering the joined history with Netscape Navigator. I hate to say this, but MS has consistently improved their software, whereas Netscape, and now Mozilla, have been bouncing around like a child's ball when it comes to bugs, stability(witness Netscape 6), and usablilty(security holes don't count, as most average users never notice them). I still like Netscape, and use it, as the new UI, especially the tabs, is very nice. But for important online transactions, I can no longer use either Netscape or Mozilla. Mozilla won't even run properly on my office machine anymore, which is what finally drove me to give it up. Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Maybe when Mozilla gets the double-posting issue resolved, I'll give it a try again.
I'm not 100% sure of the dupe, but threading misdisplay issues don't fall into neat categories. The only one I've personally seen is bug 93426, which doesn't appear to be this particular bug. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 154403 ***
