https://www.thewindowsclub.com/disk-cleanup-utility-windows/ in Firefox uses between 500mb to 5gb - in Firefox 78 on Windows 10 and Mac. As can been seen in the memory report and performance tab.

Chrome seems steady at 300-400mb. On a third WIndows system memory usage holds steady at the rate of chrome.

https://www.thewindowsclub.com/software-distribution-folder-in-windows/ is similar, but less memory

I have not tested in safe mode. Could be something, could be nothing.

Whiteboard: [MemShrink]

Cc'ing you mccr8 in case there's something really juicy here, since it sounds like Firefox behaves differently from Chromium reliably here.

coincidentally, when I logged on to my system today, about:performance showed those two as each being 6gb

:wsmwk, could you check to see if you are still having this issue? If so, could you also attach a new memory report.
