There are a number of issues with how we handle slow-running scripts in Firefox. This metabug will track some specific efforts in this quarter to improve this situation.

I'm adding bug 476541 in lieu of bug 493578, as it's a situation the slow script dialog is supposed to prevent, though as this bug's intent should clarify, it'd be better to just not hang at all...
