- In the day and week view at the top of the calendar
- in the month view at the top of the day

The advantage is a better overview of what to do next ;-)
Why is this better than having the left side show all the tasks that you have to do?

Both ways are equivalent, of course. I think it has to do with some ones habit. 
Using palm scheduling, I learned to like this, because it is good answer to the
question: What's up today?

Open tasks, whether having a 'to do now' or no date always show up as todays 'to
do'. Best representaion would be in the days view.

Maybe the wise decision is to show them additional in the days view
