User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/84.0.4147.105 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
- Opened some messages from various accounts in new tabs.
- Ran filters on one account's Inbox including a filter that moves some messages to a subfolder of the Inbox.
Actual results:
Different messages substituted for moved messages in open tabs. Those changes were reflected in tab labels.
(Also: One tab, the first to the right of the Inbox's tab, was open from a previous session. Its label did not change, but when I clicked on the tab, it disappeared.)
Expected results:
As has been the case for some time, even when a filter moves messages from one folder to another, tabs containing/displaying those messages should remain in their places onscreen and continue to contain/display those messages.

(The tab that disappeared when I clicked on it had had a message in it that the filter moved to the subfolder.)

(The filter finds messages containing "[EL]" in the subject line and moves them into my "Election Law" folder.)

When a message that is open in a Tab is moved to a different folder, it should stay open in that Tab.
When a message that is open in a Tab is deleted, the Tab should be closed. (Even if the message is actually being moved to another folder, a Trash folder.
[It’s understandable that moving or deleting a message that is being displayed in the Message Pane in Tab #1 should result in the next message in the message list being displayed in the Message Pane. But messages that are open in Tabs (or separate Windows, I suppose) are generally there so the user can revisit them, so they should not go offscreen if the user or the user’s filter moves them to other folders (any of the non-Trash folders that can be displayed in the Folder Pane).]
I often have had more than 40 tabs open (with a different message open in each) in my one open Window.

Question: I'm using Thunderbird 68.11.0 (32-bit) on a 64-bit Windows 10 laptop. [I'm currently on the release update channel.]
Would my switching to a 64-bit version help me here?
[If so, how can I do it without losing information (messages, accounts, folders, contacts, filters, ...)?

I will again make this an enhancement request. This is not a sudden change in the way the program works or some regression that is an unexpected byproduct of another change. ipso facto it is a request for enhancement. You are seeking to have the behaviour of the application changed to what you consider correct behaviour.
Please do not change the setting for the bug unless you are intending to fix it yourself.

Ok, Matt, I guess I wasn't tripped up by this until I started manually running filters on folders after, rather than automatically during, my checking for (POP) mail on a server. I still think it is a problem. But maybe too deep in the code to be easily fixable. Also, it could be related to why many open tabs disappear occasionally after exiting and then restarting TB. For which I suggested adding an "is open" flag to help find the disappeared messages again.
