Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:79.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/79.0
Steps to reproduce:
Sync calendars against Tine 2.0 (CalDav) with TB 78.1.1 Win64 and Linux 64 version as well.
Actual results:
The users were neither able to create new entries on the server nor update existing entries. The server denied the access.
After some research i foun the reason:
Thunderbird 78 now doesn't announce itself as thunderbird anymore against the server but as generic client.
<snip>
Calendar_Convert_Event_VCalendar_Factory::parseUserAgent::172 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/78.1.1 -> backend: generic version:
<snap>
With Thunderbird 68 everything works well.
Expected results:
Thunderbird 78 should announce against the server as thunderbird NOT as generic
Here the expected entry I modified from TB 68 access:
<snip>
Calendar_Convert_Event_VCalendar_Factory::parseUserAgent::172 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/78.1.1 Lightning/78.1.1 -> backend: thunderbird version: 78.1.1
<snap>
Thanks in advance !

Lightning no longer exists. Calendar functionality is now part of Thunderbird itself since Thunderbird 76. Therefore Thunderbird developers decided to remove Lightning from user agent (Bug 1624241).
If your calendar server uses antique technics like user agent sniffing I'd suggest to contact the calendar server developers. Maybe they can offer a solution. If they need to know the specific Thunderbird version they can check for this.
Bug 1631426 Comment 16 and following describes what seems to be similar and was fixed server side.

Thanks for your "nice" answer including bashing other developers. You may know that the Bug 1631426 you kindly mentioned is marked "RESOLVED INVALID".
But forget it ! I solved it quick and dirty by changing the Tine 2.0 code. Now even Thunderbird 78 is a supported client.
I feel certain that the Tine2.0 developers solve this issue in the next release or roll out a patch.
