User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826 I use "Empty Trash on Exit" - when I restart Mozilla Mail, the erased messages are no longer shown. But when I take a look at the Mail-Files that are stored in the users - folder, the filesize stays the same. when I open the file in a Texteditor, the erased msg. is still in that file. So the User-Folder keeps growing in seize! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Set to Erase on Exit 2.Erase Messages 3.Look in the mailfile in Users-Folder Actual Results: Messages do not get erased from File Expected Results: Erase the Messages in the file, otherwise it keeps growing till all available Harddisk-space is used up!
are you using an imap or pop3 mail server? I.e., is the mail local or on the mail server? Are you saying that the Trash folder is not really empty, or your other local mail folders still have deleted messages in them? If the latter, then you need to compact those folders yourself, and this bug is not really valid (empty trash no longer compacts all your local folders)
I am using POP3 and the mail is locally stored. There are archive files (at least windows calls the "archive", they have no file extension) for every folder in the path mozilla\users50\default\...\mail\ The archive files remain the same size after I deleted a lot of messages with attachments. When I browsed the files with a texteditor I found out that all the emails I deleted are still there, they only have a different "mozilla flag". But the Mozilla mail program does not show them anymore. I assumed that the emails will be deleted from the archive files too. If this is not a bug, than it is still strange behaviour for me..
marking invalid - you need to do a compact folder to reclaim the disk space, or set up auto-compact.
