User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:79.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/79.0
Steps to reproduce:
I am using the latest version 78.1.1 (32-Bit) on Windows 10 (17.8.2020):
a) I enter a new complete "To-address" and want to correct it. After "return" i cannot go back to correct the address unless I press the right mouse button.
b) I cannot add a second "To-adress", which was formerly always possible, because a new "To"-line opened up immediately.
Actual results:
To a): Using the editing option any change of the address leads easily to a hang-up of the program. For example: I want to add before email-address the full name and put the email-address between the "<" and ">", the program hangs-up, freezes.
To b): adding a second "To"-address is no more possible. in trying to do so, a hang-up or freezing may happen.
Expected results:
to a): All the editing should not be followed by a hang-up or freezing of the program. In this way Thunderbird becomes after 20 years of usage inoperable.
to b): The basic feature of adding more than one receiving address has gone and must be re-installed. Composing an email becomes an unending nightmare.

Keeping this open for now to check on the claim of "hang/freeze". Probably invalid like bug 1659507.

Thanks for your feedback on what you consider a bug.
I am using the latest version 78.1.1 (32-Bit) on Windows 10 (17.8.2020):
a) I enter a new complete "To-address" and want to correct it. After "return" i cannot go back to correct the address unless I press the right mouse button.
Oh, sorry for that. It's actually very easy: With cursor focus in address input, press Cursor-left ⯇
to select the last recipient item (aka recipient pill), then press Enter
or F2
to edit the recipient's email address.
We're about to offer documentation on the new addressing area [1] which also covers this:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/addressing-email/revision/205382#w_how-to-edit-or-remove-recipient-items
(verify that you're going to exactly that URL, not yet public, no German translation yet)
I think that explains it.
b) I cannot add a second "To-adress", which was formerly always possible, because a new "To"-line opened up immediately.
Of course you can ;-) After creating your first recipient with Enter
, you'll see blinking cursor indicating your new insertion point. Just type another recipient, use autocomplete as needed, press Enter
again - second recipient created. And so forth.
Actual results:
To a): Using the editing option any change of the address leads easily to a hang-up of the program. For example: I want to add before email-address the full name and put the email-address between the "<" and ">", the program hangs-up, freezes.
Don't think we have a bug here...
- Are you able to reproduce the hang/freeze and give us exact steps for that, like what exactly you typed and which keys you pressed?
- If reproducible, does it also happen with Help > Restart with all addons disabled?
To b): adding a second "To"-address is no more possible. in trying to do so, a hang-up or freezing may happen.
Possible, see above. Are you sure that the program was freezing as in "totally not responding to any input anywhere"? Or maybe it was just showing the selected pill with blue background color, and you were trying to cursor left before that and it was refusing?
to b): Composing an email becomes an unending nightmare.
The new addressing area is actually more organized and much more efficient than before, especially for keyboard usage. You can now select several recipients easily in and act on all of them in a single step. Details here:
