Steps to reproduce:

about config settings changed to:

  • browser.search.context.loadInBackground true
  • browser.search.openintab true

Actual results:

search bar results are opening in new tab which is FOCUSED

Expected results:

Search bar results should load in a new tab in BACKGROUND

Reproduced in the latest version of Nightly 81.0a1 (2020-08-24), beta 80.0 and release 79.0 .

Setting a component for this issue in order to get the dev team involved.

This is possible today, you can shift-middle click a search bar result, which will open the tab in the background.

Marking as duplicate of bug 726232 as that's asking for the same thing.
