I had not used my bookmarks for a several days because I was busy, so I do not know exactly when the issue happened. But I have many, many bookmarks, which recently I had trimmed down to a much more reasonable size, yet still a lot. I am mentioning this because it might factor in, though it likely doesn't because the error didn't happen when I had much more of them.
Anyway, when I finally came around to attempting to use one of my recent bookmarks today, I found the bottom of my bookmark list to be unrecognizably old. It was like half of my bookmarks were chopped off the end of the list, or as if I was reverted to a much older list. I immediately looked up how to recover my bookmarks, I found some recent auto-backup states and set it to recover. However, each time I tested, now 4 times I believe, it has failed, with an error window and log files generated. I seem to not be able to reclaim my old bookmark state. My browser hasn't misbehaved in any other way, and there were no signs or symptoms until what I am noticing now. One thing worth noting though, however, is that my recovery entries say how many items they are recovering. And they say ludicrous things like "25,584 items". I do keep many more bookmarks than the average person, but if I added 5 bookmarks per day for 10 years I still wouldn't have near that many. My new status says 4930 items.
I am simply looking to resolve the error issues so that I can recover my bookmarks.

Hi, unfortunately this report is not very useful because it does not describe the problem well. If you have time and can still reproduce the problem, please read https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/QA/Bug_writing_guidelines and structure this bug report: Clear steps to reproduce, click by click, where to do what, expected outcome, actual outcome; all in separate and complete sections. Thanks!
It doesn't appear to be a bug with how I used the browser. It seems like the backup file must have been corrupted, since I found a stable backup for my bookmarks that I was able to use. For this same reason this bug is no longer particularly important to me. At any rate, since I have confirmed that the issue is the specific backup file, and it took me a while to notice the issue, I have no way to detail the steps that caused the bad backup to be made (as stated, it's a default, automatic Firefox bookmark backup). So I can't structure the report with steps to reproduce the issue, since it's a corrupted file error, not a usage error. The usage was just to have Firefox automatically generate a backup as it does normally with zero backup configuration or manual input. Nothing to report there. A moderator can probably delete this since it will be useless for the purposes of fixing the issue as I have no information about the cause.

Unfortunately there isn't much info to act here, next time you could evaluate sending the corrupt backup to one of the developers by private mail to check if something can be done, or try restoring it in a clean new profile. Thanks for reporting anyway.

From the log, the most interesting part seems to be the
bookmarks failed: MergeConflictError: The database is busy(resource://gre/modules/SyncedBookmarksMirror.jsm:1424:5) JS Stack trace: MergeConflictError@SyncedBookmarksMirror.jsm:1424:5
handleError@SyncedBookmarksMirror.jsm:766:22
maybe related to a huge restore transaction ongoing
