Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0

Steps to reproduce:

The RAM for main process of Firefox will keep increasing in a cyclic period and will drop suddenly.

Used Firefox Developed edition version 80 beta 3 at the time, but it was for a while now, maybe since version 70 I can¨t even remember

Actual results:

I will attach some pictures to show what exactly is happening https://imgur.com/a/6aSQXMk

You can see the high Memory/ CPU usage of the main process also.

Funny thing Uploading the images failed in Firefox many time , at the end I used Edge Chromium

Expected results:

it should be stable as no new tabs are opened or reloaded

AS usual I forgot to say, no special tweaks, no special plugins, the only thing is I have too many open tabs (around 200) and most of these tabs are not even loaded when reopening Firefox

Hey Andrew,
Can you take a look over this? Thank you.

This a new screenshot just now with Firefox developer edition 81 beta 6 https://imgur.com/a/VEhJL97

I Just wanna Correct it was Firefox beta 81 not 80

As I said, no special tweaks, no special plugins (Just ublock 1.29.2 and Facebook container)

As I explained, just a lot of opened tabs (200-250) and the loaded tabs upon reopening are arround 10 to 20

Could you please attach a memory report when you are in the stage where the memory is rising? Go to about:memory, check "anonymize" if you don't want the report to include any URLs for pages you have open, then click "measure and save" to save a file. Then attach the file to this bug. It is hard to know what the memory usage might be without that. Thank you.

Also, about how long does it take for the memory usage to drop like that? We have some cleanup methods that run occasionally as kind of a fallback, so maybe of those is doing the cleanup.

It is stable now, I will do it for sure https://imgur.com/a/IsAimDi

I should have said not always, strange when it happens it is the same open tabs when it happens,

Unless the clean up methods are scheduled at 4GB then it is not it, because it will drop once it hits 4GB immediately and I am using x64 version , so there is no 4GB limit for the RAM I guess

Even uploading the images to imgur was failing because of network.http.sendRefererHeader was sett to 0

Now I could upload and image there

I believe that the JS heap is actually limited to 4GB, so it is possible that it is related to that.

Please attach a memory report as I described in comment 4. Without that, we won't have enough information to investigate this issue further. Thanks.

Hey Jeny,
Any news on that memory report if the issue is still occurring ?
