Steps to reproduce:
After starting up my HP laptop (core i5, 8th gen with 8GB of RAM, Win10), I attempted to launched Thunderbird so I could send out an email. Please note that Help lists version 68.12 as the most current release.
Actual results:
I have been waiting for over 15 minutes now and am experiencing KEYBOARD LAG so bad that it's basically impossible to compose a new message.
Expected results:
I hope that you could manage background tasks in a manner that leaves the system/application in a state that is useable. I understand the issue with older hardware, but I do not believe this is unreasonable. My system resources were at 64% RAM use and under 20% CPU. This is an unacceptable place to be throttled. Thank you.

See https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues for how to set the exclusion for Thunderbird
If you do the exclusion and still see a problem, please start Windows in safe mode to determine whether other software might be involved.

I don't see an entry for Windows Defender. Should I just assume its similar? I'm running Windows Defender on Win10.
Start computer in 'Safe Mode with Networking'
start Thunderbird.
Have you posted a question regarding this issue in the Thunderbird Support Help Forum ?
