User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020722 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020722 When sending an email to multiple lists from the personal address book, if a recipient is included in more than one list mozilla should only add them to the recipient list *once*. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Add a particular recipient to more than one list. 2.Send an email to > 1 of the lists this recipient is on 3. Actual Results: Recipient appears multiple times in recipient list. Expected Results: Recipient should appear only once in recipient list. Pretty minor problems, especially since most SMTP servers will only deliver the message once anyway.
Confirmed behavior with 20020904,though this is probably a candidate for an RFE. Would be fairly easy to achieve programatically if we do a caseless match/uniq of the email address only discarding the GECOS field.
Dave confirmed on Solaris/SPARC, he tells me.

I believe my problem is related to this one. To create duplicate entries... 1) Add e-mail address to Address Book. (ex. Name "Johny", Email "jsm@xyx.com") 2) e-mail "Johny" and have "Johny" reply. 3) Suspose "Johny" replys and his profile is setup as "Smith, John" jsm@xyx.com 4) Reply to "Johny"'s reply. 5) A new Address book entry is added with Name "Smith, John", Email "jsm@xyx.com") I don't want a new entry for "jsm@xyx.com". I want to keep the one I have and leave the name as "Johny".
Regarding comment #4, this bug is about 1 email address, being in >1 mailing list (i.e. mailing list A & B), being added multiple times as a recipient if lists A & B are added to recipients. The bug of being able to add multiple email addresses to address books is covered under other bugs, including bug 45946. :)

It would be nice if matching to remove duplicates also resolved equivalent addresses into one, possibly with a dialog to decide which to use. This could be done via the information from the user's Identities and any Additional Email listed for recipients in the address book. I sense there are lots of not-so-obvious behaviours which arise from this, but thought I'd air the idea anyway :)
