Right now we enforce a 10MB quota on the pending pings directory.
In bug 1665041 we also enforce a maximum of 250 ping files.
At an average of 600 bytes for a basically-empty baseline ping we'll always hit the number limit before the size limit.
Metrics and events pings are bigger, but my assumption is that even then we're far away from the 10 MB limit.
Once we looked at some pre-analysis with the metrics we now have we should make a decision what to do about the size limit.
Keeping it, lowering it or getting rid of it completely?
