I'd like to be able to add filters for dates (start and end dates) so that it makes filtering out events a lot easier.

Think of a filter as an event. Suppose you set the start date. What is the assumption for the filtering process? Filtering out events before that is the first I can think of. As for setting the end date, will it be filtering out events happening after that time? If so, isn't getEventsForRange good enough for this requirement?
