Every once in a while, mozilla 1.1 hangs when performing a google search. When I
went to google and attempted a google search on kylix borland c++, the search
took a very long time (about thirty seconds). During that period the entire
browser is unusable.
I've been seeing this too.. I've been unable to catch it in the act with a
profiler so far, but it's incredibly annoying.

Anand, when you do a search from the google home page, the search results page
is in UTF-8 and may contain text in other languages or character encodings. For
example the kylix search returns some results in japanese.

It's possible the hang you're seeing is the X server (or font server, or
something) having to stop and index all of your fonts. You could check this
using the preferences fonts dialog. Could you open
Edit->Prefs->Appearance->Fonts and see how long it takes for mozilla to actually
display the font dialog? I'm curious if the delay is about the same as what
you're reporting with google.

Note this font information gets cached, so you won't see the same delay every
time you do this.
I do not see a sporadic browser hang anymore in Mozilla 1.2.1 on RH Linux 7.3
(XFree86 4.2, 2.4.18 kernel) when doing google searches. Also, the
Edit->Prefs->Appearance->Fonts dialog in Mozilla 1.2.1 displays the fonts dialog
in a few seconds on my machine (PIII 650, 320MB SDRAM).
