Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.14; rv:83.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/83.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open a lot of tabs, enough to cause the tab bar to scroll (say 25 or more)
  2. Hover your cursor over the tab bar
  3. Using the track pad, use two fingers to attempt to scroll left or right

(Note: to make it easier to reproduce, if you shrink the size of the window you won't need to open as many tabs)

Actual results:

The tab bar moves a few pixels in the direction you scrolled (left or right)

Expected results:

The tab bar should scroll in that direction significantly more

Additionally:

  • I'm on a MacBook Pro 15-inch, mid 2015 model.
  • I am able to consistently reproduce this both in my profile with several extensions in Nightly 83, as well as on a clean profile in Firefox 80.0.1 with no extensions.

I'm happy to provide any debugging information I can.

Hi Brandon,

I can't reproduce this on the latest Nightly on MacOS 10.15, two fingers scrolling works ok for the touchpad. Also tried on MacBook Pro (15-inch, MacOS 10.15) on the latest Release 81.
Could you give it a try on Safari too? Just to make sure its not actually a track pad issue.

Hi Timea,

I just tried on the latest Nightly (09-28) and I'm still able to reproduce the issue. I also tried in Safari and the issue is not present - scrolling through tabs works there as expected. As an additional check, I also tried using pinch to zoom in Nightly to zoom in on a page and then scrolled around the page content using 2 fingers on the trackpad, so I don't think it's a hardware issue.

I also noticed that that you're running MacOS 10.15 whereas I'm running 10.14.6 if that helps!

I just discovered that a separate program I'm using for window management called Hyperdock has a feature that detects scrolling in the titlebar to trigger window snapping. It's a bit odd that attempting to scroll through the tabs moves a few pixels then stops and the Hyperdock snapping never kicks in, but disabling the feature in Hyperdock causes the scrolling in Firefox to work as expected. Given that, it doesn't seem like this is a defect with Firefox so I'll close out this issue.
