I think tabs could use a lot more configuration options.
Some examples:
- allow remapping of hotkeys associated with tabs (^N instead of ^T for new tab,
etc).
- closing the last tab should not close mozilla, as using ^W to close all open
tabs (to clean up) often results in no more mozilla, requiring restart.
- perhaps an easy way to navigate through common tabs, ie: hit 1 for tab 1, 2
for tab 2 and so on. Good for sites that you always have open in a browser and
frequently access/update from and want quick access to w/out mousing or looking.
- make tabs that have changed since you switched from them change colors to show
that something is different (ie: a page reloads or redirects while you are
looking at another tab, changes to red or something to show that something is
different since you last saw it)
- make actual tab locations configurable to users preference (ie: work-related
pages could have tabs on the bottom and non-work could have them on the top).
Mainly for organization..
- allow for hotkey tabs w/multiple "Home Pages". For example, ALT+Home takes
you to your home page.. What if you could configure home-pages for multiple
buttons, like alt+1/2/3/4/5/etc. Ctrl+alt+1 to set #1, alt+1 to access it or
something. They open in new tabs. Quick way to jump to a (limited?) set of
"Super-Bookmarks" (more often used than most bookmarks) without having to mouse
around.
- what would be really cool but kind of supercedes Tabs would be mozilla
"desktops." I know most *nix window managers support multiple desktops, but
wouldnt it be cool for a browser to it for browser windows? You could have tabs
within desktops. Moving around mozilla desktops wouldnt really be moving you
around window manager/os desktops but just look like you are moving from one
mozilla to the other (in a more left/right/up/down kind of way as opposed to
front/back w/conventional app-switching on most operating systems - like alt+tab
in windows). Think of a situation at work, where you have a mozilla "Desktop"
open with all your work tabs - your intranet, time entry, bugzilla, etc. On
another mozilla "desktop" you could have all your non-work tabs, like fark,
slashdot, etc. Again, just for organization.
As you can see, I am running out of ideas.
Hope this gives you guys some (better ones) as well. :D
