Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1299676887141228544.html
  2. Look for reader mode icon

Actual results:

It's not available.
Note: it's not always the case, e.g. this thread work fine https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1308542908291661824.html
Using about:reader?url= the actual url works fine too

Expected results:

It's available and I can read the thread in reader mode.

This is an issue with the heuristics involved, so I filed it at https://github.com/mozilla/readability/issues/624 .
