1668668 - Sometimes pinned tabs do not reload after browser startup

Sometimes after launching Nightly, I find that a pinned tab that has not not fully reload. I've noticed this a few times with a pinned Spotify tab. I am not sure if the problem only occurs when the window with the pinned tab is minimized from the previous session. (Restore previous session is enabled in preferences.) I have noticed this on Nightly 83 and possibly 82. Reloading the tab works to restore the tab fully.

I lost my pinned slack tab 3 times this week. (On linux.) After restart the tab is just blank.

This was probably bug 1662925 (and should have been fixed as of the October 8th nightly) if the tabs were using ServiceWorkers. You can find what sites have ServiceWorkers installed by opening about:serviceworkers from within Firefox. Ctrl-f / find-in-page works there, so you should be able to search for spotify or other pages. I used Spotify for a time and don't seem to have any ServiceWorkers installed for it, so I worry Spotify might be a different situation, but maybe I didn't approve notifications or something that it requires enabling before installing the SW?

I do have a couple of service workers for Spotify, both for open.spotify.com. I have not been using a pinned Spotify tab recently, but I'll start testing this again. It was an intermittent problem. I'll go ahead and close this bug as a dupe of 1662925 and will re-open if necessary. Thanks!

I hit this problem again with an October 12th Nightly. In this instance, the URL bar was empty and reloading the tab did not work.

I hit this several times a day (and have so for about a month). Of 10 pinned tabs, roughly 3~4 don't load on startup. The ones that don't load are typically slack tabs, but sometimes gmail.

Anything I can help do to debug this?

Given that it is slack / gmail that don't load, I guess this is service-worker related so perhaps it is bug 1668743 instead.

I haven't seen this problem before but this morning all five of my pinned tabs didn't load-- I just got a round loading image (a Firefox image that was the same across multiple domains). Force reload didn't help. I replaced all pinned tabs with new pinned tabs with the same URL (which loaded before being pinned) and restarted and the tabs didn't load.

I then added three new pinned tabs and restarted--the new pinned tabs loaded but the first five didn't.

View source on three of the failed pinned tabs showed HTML, but the other two didn't show anything with view source. Later four responded to control-u to view source. The fifth still doesn't show source after about five minutes and doesn't have a context menu but the other four do.

Because of the mention of service workers in comment 7 I unregisted all service workers (I have no idea when I even visited some of those domains) and restarted. This time seven of the eight pinned tabs didn't start. (The eighth was about:profile which I added this morning because of I knew I would need to restart again.)

The two new URLs that now fail to load on as pinned tabs are https://chat.mozilla.org/#/home and https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/ .

Non-pinned tabs have been loaded on restart without problem. They were two bugzilla bug and a Google search.

I added more pinned tabs and tried another restart and six out of eleven pinned tabs in two windows loaded (some of the original five tabs, and some of the new pinned tabs).

My problems went away with the next Nightly version. The issue was bug 1687616.

In the discussion in https://chat.mozilla.org/#/room/#nightly:mozilla.org it was suggested this issue might be a dupe of bug 1611870.

I have not seen it in a long time and would be fine with closing this as works-for-me.
