Details

I just installed Norton Antivirus 2002 that scans outgoing e-mail.
When sending mail with an attachment, the virus scanner is kicked off. All is
well if I send it via my ISP (that checks my IP address).

But if I send it through the smtp server at work, where a password is required,
Mozilla hangs at 100% cpu. The Norton scan window never appears. I automatically
log in, but the window asking me to unlock my password database never appears
either.

This is the 8/26 win2k build.
I updated Norton 2002 to the latest version, and it still does this. I also
reported it to
Symantechttp://servicenews.symantec.com/cgi-bin/displayArticle.cgi?group=symantec.support.winnt.nortonantivirus2002.general&article=50725

Here are the issues with Norton and Netscape Mail that we are aware of.

1) When using the Norton Autoprotect feature Netscape will be prevented from
writing to the .msf files. This can be changed in the Norton AV Configuration by
setting the "exclusions" to include .msf files.

2) Norton Internet Protection can prevent cookies from being accepted when
coming from a 3rd party.

3) Norton can prevent data migration from 4.x to 6 or 7.

4) It can affect connectivity and act almost like a proxy or firewall by
preventing some domains from being loaded by a browser.

If the above don't help with your problem, can you send specifics for your 2
environments: which Mozilla build are you running on each, what are the security
and antivirus programs/settings on each. Also, does the send fail for all
attachments or only certain ones?
I think this is a different issue, but will try the .msf suggestion when I
reboot to Windows (from Linux). As I reported, this happened with the 8/26
build, but it is still there with later builds.

The problem is NOT the attachments. The problem (I think) is that the particular
smtp server requires a uid/pwd to send mail. If the Norton outgoing mail scanner
is kicked off, the dialog asking for the uid/pwd (or the access to the saved
passwords) is blocked by the scan process, e.g., one of the two is modal, and
everything hangs. If I send the same message and attachment using an ISP that
does not require a uid/pwd, all is well. This is why I feel that the problem is
in the password process.

Dupe.
