Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:81.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/81.0

Steps to reproduce:

Just leave Firefox running. This sounds like bug 1605443, I'll take a look at the diagnostic suggestion made in that report.

Actual results:

Things just start running slow, for example clicking in a text entry box can take 5 seconds before the cursor appears or typing can start

Expected results:

Should have remained as fast as when launched

Ok, installed the profiler, how would you like me to use it?

Hi osavill!
I was not able to reproduce this issue on latest Nightly version 83.01a on Ubuntu 18.04.
Could you please try to reproduce it on the latest Nightly and tell us your input? You can download from here: https://nightly.mozilla.org/

Related to comment 1, you can follow the instructions mention in this link: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Performance/Reporting_a_Performance_Problem and at the end, you can paste the URL on this bug.

Hi,
I'm marking this as Resolved-Incomplete due to lack of response. If the issue is still reproducible with the latest Firefox version, feel free to reopen the bug with more information.
Thanks,

It's not been such an issue on the 82_ubuntu release but with nightly it's reproducible. It gets worse and worse as more tabs get opened.

The 82_ubuntu build gets really laggy when entering text in to text entry field and especially with Google docs spreadsheets. Haven't tried Office365 nor any of the LibreOffice on-lines.

Tried all the option suggested on the page. 82_ubuntu is no largely behaving except sometimes in text entry fields. I'll now keep 82_ubuntu running for a few hours and then attempt to edit a Google docs spreadsheet and see what happens...

Would mozregression be of help?

Hi osavill!
Did you have a chance to run mozregression? I will set a component to have a starting point for this. If this is not the right component please feel free to route this ticket to the corresponding team, thanks!

Component: Untriaged → XPCOM

Really sorry Marcela I didn't run mozregression and then it started behaving again, but yesterday it was really bad, several seconds delay between clicking in an entry box and a cursor appearing. When it happens again I'll run mozregression.

Given that you are having trouble reproducing the issue, it might be better to get a profile first, as described in comment 3, instead of trying to get a mozregression. A memory report from about:memory might also be useful, in case the slowness is due to a leak.

Component: XPCOM → Performance

No further feedback from reporter. Closing as incomplete again. Happy to reopen when you can provide the memory reports, or/and a Gecko profile as done via https://profiler.firefox.com/. Thanks.
