Thunderbird 78.3.1. 20200925001233 on Windows 8.1
I had ~10 alerts pending, all for recurring events. One alert was for a reminder from 1 month ago and had a second, recent alert. Dismissing this failed (that's unchanged compared to Thunderbird 68).
After closing Thunderbird and restarting it,
a) all but one alarm are gone, and the remaining one is for a still ongoing event. Are reminders for past getting automatically dismissed now?
b) The events firing the reminders itself are missing, at least some (cannot remember all reminders).
c) One event is in a different calendar now (I moved a different event, at least that's what I remember).
I also had lost reminders earlier with 78.2.x after a crash but the events persisted.

Pulled the backup, dismissed some events, closed and started Thunderbird again, expected alerts shown. Closed and started Thunderbird once more, 2 out of 4 alerts and their events gone.

aryx, is this behavior specific to certain calendar types? It reminds me of another bug report reporting similar problems with local calendars stored in SQLite.

It's a profile which only uses local sqlite calendars.
Further investigation:
Run 1: Dismiss most alerts.
Run 2: All expected remaining alerts shown, duplicate weekly alerts shown as one alert (like in previous versions).
Run 3: Some alerts are lost.
Which alerts are lost is already determined after Thunderbird gets closed after Run 2 - using a copy of that state and launching it has always the same alerts missing.

Which type of calendar is it?
Thunderbird 78.4.3 - Linux OpenSuse 15.2
I have already read several complaints on the subject of missing events (1677307, 1670455, 1671051).
I can only confirm this. It affects both recurring events and individual events, but always with a reminder.
It's bad when you want to work with the events as evidence, as I've done with Lightning since then.
I now lack this evidence and can only reconstruct it if I also have a data backup for every day.
I can no longer rely on the events in Calendar.
This error has been known for weeks (see above), but still nothing has happened.
I am thinking of converting my system completely from Thunderbird to Evolution (because I don't want two different programs for mail and calendar).

Today another event "disappeared".
A recurring event that I confirmed yesterday evening with another reminder in 8 hours.
Yes, and no reminder this morning, and the event was "gone".
And today the next "failure"
Now it was also that I missed an appointment because of that.
Thunderbird's calendar is no longer portable.
I have to transfer all events (and emails) to a new system (Evolution).
But it's not possible that I miss events because of a missing reminder.
It worked with Lightning in the past.
What's happened????
What does mozilla do about it??

Yes. The issue with editing recurring events is being handled in bug 1664731. Possibly its the same as this Please test once we get that fixed.

This is most likely the same issue as Bug 1671051. Somewhere along the line an sql statement is being executed when not ready causing an error.
Let's track there for now.

I now have version 78.7.1 and unfortunately the problem still persists.
On February 10 an event has disappeared, and today on February 16 even two events.
These two events were definitely still available the day before 9:00 a.m. (data backup!).
All three are recurring events that have been saved with a new reminder.
Now I wonder until when Mozilla can finally offer a solution to this problem.
I wrote my first report 3 months ago, but this problem has been known for at least 4 months.
For various reasons, I did not switch to Evolution.

I now have version 78.7.1 and unfortunately the problem still persists.
New on 23.02.2021, and this time no recurring event.
What was bad was that this was an important doctor's event.
Thunderbird is being replaced by evolution.
Enough!!

Comment 10 wasn't fixed until version 88. Can you confirm that the problem is gone?
