When opening a .pdf file, the plugin loads an acrobat reader process. When the
window/tab/document is closed, the process (acrord32.exe) is left running,
taking up 18MB of RAM on my machine.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open pdf file in mozilla, eg: http://www.etestinglabs.com/main/reports/gateway.pdf
2.Close window/tab and/or Mozilla
3.Note process acrord32.exe still taking up resources.

Actual Results:
acrord32.exe still taking up resources.

Expected Results:
unloaded acrord32 if there were no more pdfs open
mike, we had several bugs on the same issue in the past. They were marked as
invalid. I agree with you that acroread.exe should close...but the viewer is
used as a plugin and not as a helper app, adobe should take care of this process
running...mozilla/nscp cannot do anything. would you like to close this one out
? Otherwise, pls explain and leave it open, thx!
yeah, this is abobe's feature, try IE and you'll get the same.
I have been told this is acrobat's problem.
