User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/86.0.4240.101 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Under Gnome/Wayland, Thunderbird 78.3.2 creates Print Preview and other windows underneath the current window, so the windows must be rearranged to see the new one. This doesn't happen under X11. As a workaround, setting MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0 (and, I think, MOZ_DBUS_REMOTE=1) prior to invoking Thunderbird makes the windows appear in the foreground.

Actual results:

Print Preview (and other) windows appear underneath the current window.

Expected results:

Print Preview (and other) windows should appear in the foreground.

Summary: Windows created by Thunderbird appear under the current window under Gnome/Wayland → Windows created by Thunderbird, for example Print Preview, appear under the current window under Gnome/Wayland

I'm not able to reproduce this using Thunderbird 78.3.2 on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Gnome on Wayland.

User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/78.3.2
OS Linux 4.15.0-121-generic

or using Thunderbird 78.3.3 on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Gnome on Wayland.

User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/78.3.3
OS Linux 5.4.0-48-generic

Selected many emails in both and opened them in new windows and print previews. All opened in the foreground.

David, what Linux flavor are you using? I'll be happy to test if it has a Live version I don't have to install.

I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed (20201012). Before you spend too much time, though, you might want to see what comes of the suggestion I got from their packager (https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1177542). I had originally reported this problem there, and he's asking me to try a new "adjusted" 78.3.3 package. Once it's released to Tumbleweed, I'll try it out and let everyone know how it goes. I suspect that'll take a couple of days to be released.

Thanks for that.

Looking at Troubleshooting Information for my Thunderbird 78.3.3 the Window Protocol is x11, but it is Window Protocol xwayland for my Firefox and I am using Gnome on Wayland.

I'm suspecting openSUSE Tumbleweed offers both and they build the xwayland version of Thunderbird?

An update...

OpenSUSE's adjustment didn't help, unfortunately (https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1177542). Also the Window Protocol is "wayland". I'll attach the full troubleshooting information.

I realized that I installed my Thunderbird's when I was using x11, and that is why the protocol is x11.

All my testing of release candidates are xwayland and I don't recall seeing the problem.

Thanks. I'll ping the openSUSE bugzilla issue.

By the way, I notice that your Window Protocol is "xwayland", and mine is "wayland". Is that just a typo, or is there a subtle clue there?

Not a typo, maybe just a difference between openSUSE and Ubuntu.

Reporter, how is version 91?

Version 91.3.2 (Tumbleweed's latest) has been working fine. Thanks!
