User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0

Steps to reproduce:

When a new mail arrives I am notified by symbol in the task bar (Windows).
As a reaction on that I want to see what arrived.

Actual results:

I have to do a double click on the symbol.
TB does not change to the inbox folder.

Expected results:

I single click on the symbol should be sufficient (as usual for everything else).
TB should change (at least when it gets the focus) to showing the inbox folder.

Summary: Reaction on clicking on "New mail" symbol → "New mail" tray icon should only require single click, and clicking should open inbox

Single click is normal on Windows, correct Walt?

If the symbol in question is the envelope icon, a single click shows me the alert notifications, a double click opens the account that received mail at the account level for me.

Currently, on Windows, the envelope shows I have 19 new messages for my Comcast account, and 0 new messages for my Blogs & News Feeds account. No idea why that account showed up, and could be the cause of the need for a double click (?)

The envelope icon is removed from the system tray as soon as I select the Comcast accounts Inbox.

I'm testing with 78.11.0 on Windows 10.

I see the same with a test profile, no feeds account.

I thought the reason the notifications appear if you select the envelope icon in the tray was so a user could select a message, click on it and go right to it to read it. No?

I'm not seeing this on windows 10 when using beta

Note for version 78 we did Bug 1664586 - TB 78 tray notification issues (tray notification stay around after close, if multiple thunderbird versions running at the same time)

And more generally, https://mzl.la/3dE0Oau is a list of bugs with activity in the past 8 years

When using 90.0b3 on Windows 10 there is no envelope icon for me in the system tray after the notification dialog closes, only the new Thunderbird icon with the number of unread messages in the red circle.

Clicking on it opens Thunderbird to my last selected folder.

Reporter,

You are referring to the envelope icon in the system tray?
