Thunderbird 78 doesn't show calendar events until I cycle toggle hide/show.

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:81.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/81.0
Steps to reproduce:
I'm running Thunderbird 78.4.0 (32-bit). My Thunderbird + Lightning has been working fine for very many years through various upgrades (except for lots of still unsolved event time zone issues, but that's a different story).
Thunderbird 78 finally came along and broke most of my last remaining add-ons. But it looks like at least my Provider for Google Calendar is still supported and enabled.
But the big problem is my entire calendar starts up blank!
Actual results:
When I start Thunderbird 78, my calendar is completely blank with no events from any calendars. I have various calendars, including:
- A remote CalDAV calendar from a non-Google provider.
- A public googleapi: calendar of public holidays.
- My own personal googleapi: calendar.
Expected results:
The calendars should show up. But they don't. You might think that have been set as "hidden", but they are not. In fact, if I put my mouse to the right of the calendar name, the little eye icon appears with the option to hide the calendar.
And if 1) hide the calendar, and then 2) show the calendar (unhide it), then the calendar events appear!!
So it's as if the calendars start up being hidden even though they are not marked as hidden, and need to be toggled to hidden and back for Thunderbird to correct the "hidden" setting. That's how it behaves, anyway.

This could be a duplicate of bug 1673280.

Will this bug not be fixed? The calendar is hardly usable if I have to toggle each calendar just to see the events each time I start up.
Thunderbird's contact and calendar have slowly been deteriorating in its functionality over the years. The plugins aren't being kept up-to-date after breaking API changes. (You can say this is not Mozilla's fault, but it is part of the entire experience and an essential component of usability value.) I no longer have contact birthdays. Contacts no longer sync with Google. Now I can't even get events to show up unless I go through a daily ritual.
There is little value left at the moment; I'm only hanging around because I was a big Mozilla fan and proponent. But if everything is broken, I can't hang around forever.

My OS is Linux Mint 20.1 running on a Tosh i5 laptop.
I would classify it as a defect but one that has an easy (if irritating) work-around.
