Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:82.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/82.0
Steps to reproduce:
Open YouTube video and it is set to 1080p Auto
Watch video for 30 seconds - 1 minute
Actual results:
Video panel will refresh, and the quality will downgrade to 720p
Expected results:
Video remains at 1080p until the end
Please note that by using Enhancer for YouTube extension, the issue is fixed since the quality is set to '1080p' rather than '1080p Auto', but I would rather not have to use the extension

Hi,
I have tested your issue on Release version 82.0.2, Beta 83.0b7 and latest Nightly 84.0a1 (2020-11-02) using Ubuntu 18.04 and Windows 10 and could not reproduce it.
If the issue is still reproducible on your end, can you please retest this using latest Nightly build (https://nightly.mozilla.org/) and report back the results? When doing this, please use a new clean Firefox profile (https://goo.gl/AWo6h8) to eliminate custom settings as a possible cause.
Thanks for the report.

Hello,
I’ve also attempted to reproduce the issue on the latest Release (82.0.3/20201108180448), Beta (83.0/20201110140026) and Nightly (84.0a1/20201110220109) under Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, however without success.
I’ve attempted to simulate a throttled network connection (which reduces the available bandwidth) and only then did YouTube automatically downgrade the resolution from 1080p to 720p (This behavior is the same on all browsers, as YouTube attempts to keep the playback running and reduce the amount of data transferred by lowering the resolution).
However on a non-throttled connection, videos remain consistently on 1080p.
Maybe this is what you are experiencing.
