[Affected versions]:

  • Firefox Nightly 84.0a1 (Build ID: 20201102095541)
  • Firefox Beta 83.0b7 (Build ID: 20201030140015)
  • Firefox Release 82.0.2 (Build ID: 20201027185343)

[Affected Platforms]:

  • Windows 10
  • Linux Mint 20
  • macOS 10.15.6

[Prerequisites]:

  • Have a different browser set as the default.
  • If using Release: have browser.defaultbrowser.notificationbar set to true.

[Steps to reproduce]:

  1. Open the Firefox browser with a profile that hasn’t navigated to about:newtab until now.
  2. Open a New Tab.
  3. Try to select the “Set Nightly as your default browser? Get fast, safe, and private browsing whenever you use the web.” string.

[Expected result]:

  • You are able to select the text. It could be useful for people who want to search a word for clarification.

[Actual result]:

  • You are not able to select the text.

[Notes]:

  • Attached is a recording of the current behavior.

This message is part of the chrome (like menus, toolbar items, doorhangers, etc.), so the text isn't selectable.
