78.4.0 hanging on startup. This is after I shut down thunderbird normally and rebooted windows for updates. Safe mode does not help

A different PC running 83 beta with the same main mail account is not hanging.

starting -offline does not hang.

changed to online - fine

"get messages" - status bar indicates "wsm0: Looking for folders..." This is a gmail account, using mbox, not maildir. messages synced

Perhaps related - pretty much no synced messages show up in the profile except the all mail folder.

Wayne, I don't see anything in the log. All looks like normal folder discovery but then just stops after about 2 seconds of recorded data.

Maybe you could run tb from a cmd line terminal and it would print something to the screen about what's happening. Worth a try.

Not sure what you mean by this. Did all you mbox files go away except for "all mail"?

FWIW, I started a win7 laptop and it has 78.4.0 and starts up OK and OK after reboot. Mixture of mbox and maildir accounts.

I deleted everything except one imap account and updated to 78.6.0 - still hangs.
Stay tuned.

Retest - accounts set to not check for new messages, and not sync message.

I tried both version 91 and 60.9.1. When I go online it hangs. (I guess going online forces checking for new messages.)
This time status bar shows "sending login information"

I this just a profile with a single gmail account. Seems like this should work. Anything special?

I looked at the log you sent again and it just stops. Never does an imap select or anything.

This was my work PC. I haven't seen it in a while. Have to check if I still have the profile.

Installed daily - fails.

Then deleted serveral files from the profile - all these files have been saved in another directory. No prefs changes:

• addons.json and sqlite
• addonstartup.json.lz4
• extension-preference.jjson, extension-preferences.json, extension-settings.json
• session.json, sessionCheckpoints.json
• virtualfolders.dat
• xulstore directory (which besides data.safe.bin, had two old files data.mdb lock.mdb dated early 2021)

I'll keep this open in hopes not too long from now I identify the cause.

Haven't see this lately. (But might not be using the same profile)
