1677387 - Occasionally typing an url tells that the page is already open in some tab, when it isn't

This has happened to me couple of times recently.
Awesomebar says that the page is open in some tab and shows the tab icon with the page. But selecting that item doesn't do anything, other than clears the location bar.

Tried reproducing the issue but without success. I've tried this using multiple popular websites, but the issue did not occur on my end.
Any particularities for when the issue is occuring?
Like what website were you visiting? What Firefox version were you using? Any steps worth mentioning before the issue occurred?

It has been happening with bugzilla pages, rarely. I'm using Nightly on Linux.
I don't yet have any STR for this.

There must be some case where tabbed browser doesn't properly unregister a tab being closed with the Open Tabs provider.
The problem here is finding which is that case...
At least if we can't switch we should open a new tab, it sounds like more useful than doing nothing.

I think we have addressed this with recent changes, there is still Bug 1887882, but that covers an edge case and will be fixed apart.
