Build:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020909

Machine:
550 MHz PowerPC G4 laptop, 512MB RAM, OS = 10.2.1 but I've seen the same problem
under 10.2 and 10.1.5

Description:
When trying to send a mail message with an attachment named with more than 32
characters, the mail client will not send the message. After hitting 'Send', the
normal Sending window pops up but then the compose window gets an error stating...
   Sending of message failed.
Please verify that your Mail & Newsgroups account settings are correct and
try again.
If I remove the attachment and hit 'Send' again, the message will go through fine.
If I rename the attachment to 32 or less characters and hit 'Send again, the
message will go through fine.

Another indicator that something is wrong occurs just after attaching the file.
If the file name is 32 or less characters, the 'Attachments:' display will show
the file name. If the file name is 33 or more characters, 'Attachments:' display
shows 'file:///Deep Space 9/Users/mikekaz/...' (the path to the file)

Steps to duplicate problem:
Within the finder, name some file something with at least 33 characters
From within Mail client of Mozilla, hit the Compose button. (Or press
Command-Shift-M) (Or do File, New, Message) same result for all
Fill in Recipient, Title, Body (if desired)
Click Attach and select the long name file (Or drag the file to the
'Attachments:' display) (same results either way)
Hit 'Send'

Confirmed using FizzillaCFM/2002090903 on 10.1.5. Could be a dup of 142043, but
I'll mark this as dependent on bug 95481 for now.

Reassigning to Attachments.

Now that the Mac OS X build is Mach-O the filename problem with files >31
characters should be fixed. Marking this bug such so QA can verify that long
filename attachments are actually working.

*** Bug 194002 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
When using long filenames, some files (e.g. OpenOffice) cannot be sent, others
(e.g. txt) send encoded directory listing instead of content.
I've just tested it with a file called
"12345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890.html" (that's 55
characters). Sending and receiving worked ok. It's verified for me (althoug I'm
not QA).
