Addons > Extensions
There are new icons.
One is lozenge shape and one is a 3 dot icon and the other is the wheel cog icon top right above list.

Hover over any of these icons and there is no tooltip.
There should be tooltips on what icons actually do. You should not need to click on an icon to find out what it does as it might enact something you do nor want enacted.

Two of those icons have a drop down menu, yet there is no indication of this to the user as the 'v' has been removed.

If an icon has a drop down menu then it should be clear it is not a button, but it is a menu button - after all none of these icons are actually in a 'Toolbar', so it cannot be assumed.

Previously it was so easy to tell the user - click on 'Disable' or click on 'Remove'. If in doubt hover over icon and a tooltip will appear.

Now I have to perform some lengthy explanation describing what the icon looks like and one is an instant click and the other is a drop down selection even if it does not show the arrow to say it is a drop down, then select X from drop down.

From the perspective of someone helping a basic user in the Support forum this new format is not so easy to communicate about.

Icons without text are not helpful. Icons are not always intuitive.

Can we please have some enhancement to make life easier for the non tech user of most basic level. Tooltips are vital and so are indications of a drop down menu when you are using a floating button that is not associated with a toolbar.

Component: Add-Ons: General → Add-ons Manager
Product: Thunderbird → Toolkit
Version: 78 → 78 Branch

Can we get a screenshot of the problem, it's hard to understand what this is about?

Image shows version 68.12.1 on left and version 78.5.0 on right.
All the buttons and icons in the versions prior to 78 all show tooltips.
As anexample of what a tooltip looks like, I hovered over the wheelcog icon that indicates it has a drop down list and the tooltip appeared: 'Tools for all addons'.
All buttons/icons that contain a drop down menu are indicated as having a drop down menu by including the 'v' shaped arrow.

In version 78*, None of the icons nor buttons have any tooltips and there is no indication that some icons eg: wheel cog and three dot, actually have a drop down menu.

It might be obvious to you and me that the lozenge shape can be clicked on to move the white dot to left or right to indicate whether it is enabled or disabled, but that should not be assumed. People do not know they can click on it. People are afraid that if they click on an icon which has no meaning and no tooltip they might do something they regret. It is also very difficult to verbably to describe icons when offering instructions. Icons without text are not helpful - if you use an icon then it should also offer Text, so that icon has meaning.

Telling someone to click on 'Enable' (when there is a button called 'Enable' ) and if you hover over it the tooltip says 'Enabled this addon' is clear and easy and takes very little typing time.
Telling someone to look for the lozenge shape icon which is like a rectantangle with rounded ends which might have a white dot to the right side and the background colour is blue/coloured to indicate that it is enabled and hovering over it offers no information on what it is or indeed that you can click on it and then asking then if the dot is white and to the right or positioned to the to the left and the background is pale - can you now understand the issue ?

There are also no tooltips in any of the other options eg: Themes
Regarding 'Themes':
There is a slight improvement that the lozenge icon is not used and the Disable button is visible.

Regarding 'Dictionaries' - there is no 'Disable' button for some reason it has been completely removed and there is no 'lozenge' icon either. So I've no idea how you disable it anyway from that location.
Could the 'Disable/Enable' button be put back.

The inconsistency is obvious and not helpful.
If the lozenge icon could be removed from 'Extensions' and the 'Disable/Enable' button could be reinstated, it would be a huge improvment.
Alternative, if lozenge icon had text eg: Disable/Enable then it would be helpful.
If the 'Dictionaries' sction could get the 'Disable/Enable' button option again it would be helpful.

If everything could have the tooltips again - it would be helpful.

Also, the icons are not exactly that easy to see if you use a dark background.
