Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.16; rv:82.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/82.0

Steps to reproduce:

Browse as usual
Click a link to open in new tab or Open a new tab and quickly type and go to a URL

Actual results:

The new tab's connection is stalled, no indication of anything, just waits as if it's loading.

Opening any subsequent tabs, clicking on links in other tabs, etc., results in the same behavior.

After an indeterminate amount of time - from a couple seconds up to 30+ seconds - the issue resolves and all the connections go through immediately.

While the issue is happening, I don't see any network connectivity issues. Other browsers (Safari, Chrome, Wget, Curl) have no issues connecting to the corresponding URLs. No abnormalities in traffic can be seen.

What I noticed is that it usually happens if I have a site that has slow-resolving connections (i.e. very high TTFB) open in Firefox. No matter if it was the active tab or not, it just has to be running in the background and making AJAX requests.

This has been happening for a few months now over different FF versions and unfortunately I don't have a good way to reproduce it. The best way I can describe the feeling of the issue is as if the connections in FF are sequential and one slow connection can stall all subsequent connections.

Expected results:

The new connection is made and the URL is opened quickly as usual.

Hey biser,
I tried reproducing this issue on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 85.0a1 (2020-11-23), beta 84.0b4 and release 83.0 but could not encounter any stalling or connection slowness.

Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode? You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
Also a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .
