I have a problem with all day events.  I generated and all day event which I
made recursive for the following 2 days ie set it up for Fri 4 Oct 2002 and
requested it to repeat daily until Sunday 6 Oct - this is a conference.  There
appeared to be a problem with generating the event, the calendar crashed and it
appeared that the event was not generated.  I then decided to retry by
generating separate all day events for each day.  When I completed the
generation for the Friday I noticed that the original request had actually
worked - I now have 2 all day events for the one day.

This appears to be causing big problems in a few areas -

1 if I try to view October in a monthly view, the calendar locks up and appears
to have 100% CPU usage.

2 if I request the summary box to show the events list for the next month I can
see the events, but if I try to either left or right click on one of the
duplicates, the calendar locks up and appears to have 100% CPU usage.

3 since this problem occurred, accessing Word or Excel has been very impaired to
the point of unusable - luckily I'm switching to OpenOffice.

If I untick the default calender which contains these events, I can get to the
Month and Day without problem.  Re clicking the Calendar, brings the problem back.

Is there a particular file for the Calender that I can edit to remove these
events ? Maybe I should just delete the calendar file and rebuild my default ?

A few things:
1. We need *exact* steps to reproduce the bug. Please provide this so that we
can easily figure out what the problem is.
2. 1 issue per bug. It sounds like there may be more than 1 problem with you. 
If so, file bugs seperately (we might know more after you give the steps)
3. Please attach your calendar .ics file to this bug. You can find it in your
Mozilla profile directory. I don't know where this is on Windows. The filename
is CalendarDataFile.ics

I would have thought "I generated and all day event which I

to discribe the *exact* steps but as it appears not, I will outline them more
specifically.

1 Select October 4 as the current date
2 Create a new event
3 give it a title and tick the 'This event lasts all day'
4 move to the recurrence page and tick 'Repeat every 1 day'
5 select the radio button for 'until' and choose Sunday 6 Oct
6 click ok

This is where the calendar appeared to have a problem generating the event. 
When I redid all of this the CPU usage hit 100% and the Windows task manager
showed that both Mozilla and the Calendar were 'Not Responding'.  I then hit End
Task for the Calendar and this closed both Mozilla and the Calendar.

When I reopened the Calendar and choose either "All Future Events" or "Events in
the Next Month" from the drop down list the event is listed in the summary - see
attached screen dump.

If I then click on either the event, the month name, of the arrow to switch to
the month of October, the Calendar once again hangs, CPU -> 100% and the task
manager gives not responding.

I have also attached the Calendar file as requested - for your info it lived in 
C:\Documents and Settings\peter\Application
Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\20en9dx5.slt

Since the problem actually appears to be making an all day event recurrent I
have not bothered to do the extra step of creating another all day event for the
same day.

As for your comment  "2. 1 issue per bug. It sounds like there may be more than
1 problem with you. ",  I thought I was being helpful in letting you know all
the consequences that appeared as a result of what looked to me to be ONE bug. 
Fix  the original bug and the other problems would most likely disappear.  If I
had raised a number of bug reports, each saying " AS a result of the 'Recurrent
All day event' bug I can no longer do such and such" you wouldn't have been
happy either !!

Try download the latest XPI that's available.
Then, move that old file out of the way and try these steps again.
The problem does not happen to me, although I'm running Linux and not Windows
(even when I use your event file)

I had gotten a new build before producing the file I sent yesterday.

I have rebuilt and redone all steps so I am now running 

Calendar 2002091215-cal on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US;
rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826

this still gives the crash.

When I reopen the calendar and look at the summary showing the future events,
the all day event is only listed for 1 day although it had been requested to
recur for the two following days.  Using the file I sent on your Linux system,
are there three days with recurring events or is there just one day?  Can you
edit the event ?

The event shows up as a 3 day event for me.  I can't edit the event because you
can't edit events from remote data sources.
Try with the build that went up yesterday, calendar 0.8.

Installed 0.8 as suggested - no change, calendar still hangs when trying to
create the event.  

You mentioned that you can't edit events from a remote data source - I don't
seem to even be able to have multiple calendars but this is probably a
completely separate bug so I won't expand on it here.

Created All day recurring event as per his instructions with Mozilla 1.0.0 and
calendar 0.8, I saw none of the problems he was experiencing.

I think I have located the actual problem.  

Since no one seemed to be able to reproduce this I did some extra tests. 
Firstly I set up an all day event for Fri Oct 4, then another for Sat Oct 5, and
then another for Sun Oct 6 (these were individual events on each day, instead of
the recurrent event starting on the 4th)- this hung the calendar again.  I then
deleted the calendar file and tried again starting with Sun Oct 6.  This hung
the calendar straight away.  The problem appeared to be with the date !!

I then remembered that here in New Zealand, we will switch to Daylight Saving
(Summer) Time on the first Sunday of October - that is the 6th.  

When I reopened the calendar with only the event supposedly set for all day
Sunday the 6th I saw that it was changed to Sat Oct 5.  If I then place the
mouse cursor over the event in the summary block, the hint shows that the event
is All day to start and end at 11pm on Sat 5 Oct. see attached screen dump at
comment #10 (id 99432)

The problem therefore is in handling the switch to Daylight Saving (Summer)
time.  Please try to reproduce this after you change your clock settings to NZ time.

I also looked at the case when NZ switches back to standard time on the 3rd
Sunday of March 2003.  An all day event created for Sunday 16 March gets
modified so that it's start time is 1am on that day.  An all day event set for
any other day starts at 12am.  This doesn't seem to cause any problems for the
calendar but should be checked more throughly.

I have just notice this problem in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US;
 rv:1.6b) Gecko/20031208 with Mozilla Calendar 2003092614-cal if I open the 
calendar window my cpu shoots up into the 60-70% range when running but not active
 window and 90+ when Calendar is the active window (on a P4M 2.2GHz with 768MB RAM
 (with no swap file) XP Pro). If I close the calander window the processor goes 
back to normal. Im in New Zealand (Pacific Auckland) and we are on daylight time 
now.

Peter:
    I am no longer able to reproduce this bug.  I successfully opened the file
you've attached, and viewed October without any CPU issues.  Since this is a
very old bug report, I suspect that the problem has been fixed at some point in
calendar's development.  Can you please say whether or not this is still a
problem for you?  If not, please mark this bug resolved.
