Steps to reproduce:

I opened up Firefox and after 5 mins Firefox stops responding, I minimize Firefox and try to use Ctrl Alt Del to close Firefox but I can't put any input into Windows 10. I was on Windows 10 version 2004 when this started, then I got a new m.2 drive and install Windows 10 version 20H2 and I'm still having the same issue. I even reinstalled Firefox but I still have the same problem

Actual results:

Firefox stopped working no response, No response from Windows 10.

Expected results:

Firefox working correctly without freezing.

I'm hoping this issue can be fixed soon or I will be forced to stop using Firefox and use a different browser, I have used Firefox for many years without any problems until now.

Hello Samarigil66,
I tried reproducing this issue on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 85.0a1 (2020-11-25), beta 84.0b4 and release 83.0 but cannot encounter any freeze or unresponsiveness from Firefox.

Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode? You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
Also a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .

I followed the instructions to put Firefox into safe mode but I'm not sure if it's in safe mode, so far no issues. I honestly think Ad Block Plus was possibly causing the problem so I removed it and then reinstalled it to see if that fixes it, I'm going to test and see if the issue I'm having returns.

I really don't want to make a new profile because I'll loose all my bookmarks unless there's a way to transfer them. I don't understand what the issue is, is my profile bugged/glitched or did someone hack it?

Still having the same issue, I can't figure out whats going on I'm getting really frustrated. How would creating a new profile fix the issue ?

I also encountered the same(maybe) error. In my case, after about 8 hours of starting firefox, my PC stopped as he did, and TweetDeck seemed to be the cause of this problem. If I used only TweetDeck to view in other browsers, my PC did not stop. And it didn't stop when I disabled Adblock Plus. However, the same thing seems to happen if you exclude TweetDeck with Adblock Plus.

I've constantly launched and monitored the task manager, and it doesn't seem to be experiencing a lack of resources.

Please note that this is a machine translation and it may be inaccurate

Can confirm i am having the same problem even with Ad Block Plus not installed but Firefox seems to be working in safe mode.

Still waiting on a reply from an admin or dev, I'm wondering when this issue is going to be fixed.

Does Firefox ever recover, or does it stay hung?

Alright I am so fed up with Firefox, I'm getting tired of this piece of shit browser always freezing and freezing windows 10. I have given you guys a month to figure out what the actual fuck is going on with Mozilla and you haven't done shit, such a horrible response from the admin/dev team. I have been using Firefox for about 10 years with zero issues and now for the past 2 months I have been having the same issue over and over and still no fix has came out ect. Unfortunately I will stop using Firefox until this browser is fixed, Firefox is now dead to me and no longer my favorite internet browser. Rip Firefox, big F.

Setting a component for this issue in order to get the dev team involved.
If you feel it's an incorrect one please feel free to change it to a more appropriate one.

Component: Untriaged → Widget: Gtk
Product: Firefox → Core

Definitely not gtk.

I mean, it's clearly not a common issue. No need to be disrespectful, but chances are there is some other software on your machine interacting with Firefox.

If it works on older versions, a nice thing you could try is https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/, to figure out when it broke.
