User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:85.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/85.0
Steps to reproduce:
Firefox 83.0 on Windows 10 20H2. I installed an update manually using the full installer from the website 1 and then noticed something was wrong with the new tab search box, it didn't look right.
Actual results:
I was unable to search anything in the new tab search box. After that I opened another new tab and that tab (and every subsequent one) had the proper G icon (for Google search) on the left and I was able to search. I have not been able to reproduce this issue since then.
An animated GIF illustrating the issue is attached.
Expected results:

Hello Ray,
I tried reproducing this issue on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 85.0a1 (2020-11-25), beta 84.0b4 and release 83.0 but the search box works for me without any issues.
Can you test the issue while in Safe Mode? You can find helpful info here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode .
Also a fresh new profile could help. You can find more about creating a new profile here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems#w_6-create-a-new-firefox-profile .
If possible, you can test this issue on the nightly build as well. Download the build from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/nightly/all/ .

Unfortunately the computer it happened on is not usually available and if it is I am often busy on it, so I think it's unlikely I will be able to help with this one. Sorry. Thanks for testing.

Unfortunately with this being a one-off report, and no other reports, it is going to be difficult to figure out what happened here. I'm therefore closing as incomplete, if it happens again later, we can always reopen.
