Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:83.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/83.0

Steps to reproduce:

Have Firefox 83.0 64-bit open and running in Windows 10 v20H2, use Window+L to lock the computer with Firefox still running, unlock the computer with your PIN/Password.

Actual results:

Firefox will hang for a period of time before becoming responsive again after log-on has occurred despite the rest of the system being responsive and all other applications continuing to run fine.

Expected results:

Firefox shouldn't hang, and should continue to be operational without a long wait.

After several tries, I have finally succeeded in reproducing it ONCE. Furthermore, it did not reproduce it on the Chrome browser when it reproduced in Firefox Release v83.0.

Furthermore, I have to mention that it must be an intermittent issue because I am struggling to reproduce it again... I have tried leaving it locked for a longer time, having larger/more memory consuming pages loaded in the focused tab, tried focusing on different windows before locking the screen...

I am confirming it as I have definitely seen it reproduce, but I am out of testing ideas. Don't know what actually causes the few seconds hang to attempt a more detailed investigation. Please NI me if you have ideas.

That's interesting... it was happening almost every time to me for a couple weeks. It actually started before I updated to 83.0. But now, for the last couple days, it hasn't happened at all...

Does FF reach out to some online service at log-on that might have been having issues?

My suggestion, if you can reproduce this somewhat reliably, is to have the Firefox Profiler running and recording. And then after unlocking the machine, and once the hang clears, immediately dump the profile and then post it here. That might give us a sense of what's blocking the main thread.

Here's the profiler guide for reference: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Performance/Reporting_a_Performance_Problem

Ok, I'll keep that in mind.

The issue has seemed to entirely go away over the last week and a bit. No clue why.

Nothing has changed on my system that I'm aware of...

If it starts to happen again though, I'll run profiler.

I will resolve this issue as "Worksforme". If it happens again, feel free to reopen it and hopefully also provide a profiler dump as requested in comment 5. Thank you.
