User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/87.0.4280.88 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Received an email in my protonmail account. Selected email in inbox. Clicked the "Archive" button (or right-click on message and select "Archive")

Actual results:

Email stays in Inbox. A pop up message at the OS level informs me that

"The current operation on 'Inbox' did not succeed. The mail server for account xxx@pm.me responded: operation not allowed for 'All Mail' folder."

(xxx@pm.me is one alias of my protonmail account)

Expected results:

Message is archived and is no longer in inbox.

NOTE: Archiving with GUI button and/or right click used to work in Thunderbird 68

NOTE: I can drag messages from my protonmail inbox to the Archive folder and archiving works. This works OK (message archived) but is much less convenient .

Forgot to mention an important point
I am using Thunderbird with multiple email accounts: Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook and one webmail.
The behavior described here happens only with Protonmail
But as stated above, archiving protonmail mails worked fine with Thunderbird 68

Environment:
Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.12.8
Kernel Version: 5.4.0-56-generic
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz
Memory: 15,5 GiB of RAM

Email environment for protonmail - using protonmail bridge version 1.5.0

Do you mean Thunderbird 68, or Thunderbird 78? (Which is working.)

Keywords: regression

It seems the whole thing was a Thunderbird (85) misconfiguration of the ProtonMail account on my part.
I changed the following to make it work in Thunderbird 85.0b3

I think the difference between the two options in the thunderbird configuration is really unclear to the uninititated.
I just found out the solution to my problem because someone posted a similar question (and answer) in Reddit (r/protonmail).
https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonMail/comments/kzni0l/cant_archive_emails_in_thunderbird/

Perhaps this Thunderbird configuration option could be documented better .

Can this (no)bug report be converted to a documentation enhancement request?
