User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:83.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/83.0

Steps to reproduce:

I removed flash from the dialog box it made on windows startup after the latest windows 10 update (December 8, 2020—KB4592438). Oddly it appears like windows is having an windows update problem. In win10 settings it says "We could not complete the install because an update service was shutting down." under the "Windows Update" tab. Firefox says it's up to date.

Actual results:

Firefox works normally when all extensions are disabled. But all extensions are showing just a skinny drop down box as shown in the attached file. This is true if only on is enabled or all of them. This is true for Lastpass, Ublock Origin, Grammarly, Vue.js Dev Tools and ColorZilla. More interestingly this is not true for the "tree style tabs" extension. When you click on it nothing happens. I don't know if this is always the case but toggling extensions is very buggy. They don't change list nicely and only sometimes they get removed from the list at the top of the screen. When settings shows them all disabled it works even if some are shown.

Expected results:

Normal Browsing. Extensions functioning.

Correction. This appears to be a UBlock Origin problem and a firefox problem. When it's disabled and firefox is restarted the rest of the extensions function normally. So firefox is somehow having UBlock Origin blocking all sites from loading, even localhost, and stop all other extensions from running until it's restarted.

Summary: Most extensions not working after uninstall of flash and blocking loading of all web pages, even localhost. Firefox 83. → Ublock Origin extention stopping all other extentions from working and stoping all pages from loading.
Summary: Ublock Origin extention stopping all other extentions from working and stoping all pages from loading. → Ublock Origin extention stopping all other extentions from working and stoping all pages from loading after flash uninstalled.

Update: Installing and Uninstalling UBlock origin has it working again. So somehow it was corrupted and affected all the other extensions (but only when it was enabled). Should this be possible?

Hello,

I’ve attempted to reproduce the issue on the latest Nightly (85.0a1/20201213213752) and Release (83.0/20201112153044) under Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, however without success.

I’ve tried updating Windows to the latest version which includes patch KB4592438, however the OS is encountering an error when attempting to connect to the update server. As such I’ve tried manually disabling the Flash Plugin from Firefox (if by any chance it will have the same effect as the removal of Flash caused by the OS update). The tested extensions (uBlock, Grammarly and LastPass), all worked as expected under these circumstances.

I will come back with further details, once I manage to update Windows.

What does the browser console show?

Browser console = ctrl-shift-j, and be sure to check "Show Content Messages" in cog menu of console.

Closing - unable to reproduce by reporter and QA.
If you have more details that helps with reproducing the issue, please add a comment.

Unfortunately, I don't believe I can be of any more assistance, as it would appear to be a weird edge case that is not readily reproducible. Hopefully, if someone else has this problem they will find this bug and be able to provide more information such as what the browser console was saying at the time. Thank you to everyone who attempted to find this bug and have a very nice day!
