Details

Affected Versions:
84.0 - Release (Open Using Rosetta)
84.0 (Intel only try-build) 20201211165338
85.0b1 - Beta (Open Using Rosetta)

Untested version:
Nightly 86.0a1 - the browser crashes if launched through Rosetta, Bug 1682510

Affected Platforms:
ARM64 MacOS:

  • miniMac: MacOS Big Sur 11.0.1, Mac mini (M1, 2020), Chip: Apple M1, display 27-inch (2560x1440), with Rosetta installed

Precondition:

  • Have Rosetta installed on the M1 devices
  • On any universal build, such as Release 84 or Beta 85.0b1, start firefox by running it under Rosetta
  • The Intel-only try build does not need any setup, this already runs under Rosetta

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to twitch.tv and start any stream

Expected Results:
Twitch streams should be loaded.

Actual Result:
Twitch streams are not loaded when Firefox is run under Rosetta

**Severity suggestion: S1 - S2 - Twitch.tv is a top streaming platform that will not work on Intel-only builds that require Rosetta to be run.

Notes:
Please note that I do have Rosetta installed on both tested M1 devices and this does work if I run Firefox 84 universal build (Rosetta translation - false).
This is not related to the Widevine plugin, Netflix works fine under Rosetta.

Component: Graphics → Audio/Video: Playback

I am not able to reproduce on 84 running under Rosetta on the M1 MacBook Pro.

Can confirm this is no longer reproducible on the affected builds running under Rosetta after the update to MacOS Big Sur 11.1.
