I upgraded to Mozilla 1.2a from 1.1 with the win32 installer. Now my profiles are no more listed in profile manager and so cannot be accessed. Still, if I try to create a new profile using the names of the profiles I lost it says "A profile with this name already exists. Please choose another name."; this is independent from the profiles folder I choose.

I tried to create new profiles. Soon afterwards the creation, before exiting from Mozilla, they are showed in "Available Profiles", but I can't anyhow access the program because clicking on "Start Mozilla" achieves nothing.
After exiting and restarting, the new profiles aren't listed any more, but trying to create a new profile with their same name result again in the message "A profile with this name already exists. Please choose another name."

Returned to Mozilla 1.1 after removing 1.2a. Now all works properly, even the
new profiles I installed for test are listed. But this means that that is a real
bug of 1.2a
.

I think I am seeing this as well.
I can reproduce it everytime:
1) download the latest nightly
2) created a new profile in the profile manager - notice how it shows up in the
list of profiles
3) start Mozilla with that profile
4) close Mozilla, wait a minute to be sure its closed and then open it again
5) notice how the new profile is now missing from the list
I can access the profile again by going Manage profiles -> create profile and
then typing in the same name I used before for the above profile. This uses the
profile without the dialog box stated in earlier comments.
I have tried making 2 different profiles with the same outcome. Profiles
created from older versions of Mozilla stay in the list. If I load the older
version of Mozilla (1.2b milestone) it does not list the new profiles and it
will not add them to the list.

I have figured out what was causing my problem. My Registry.dat file was marked
read-only. Changing this to normal and then adding the profiles again fixed it.
Looks like your problem was different, although similar, to mine. You might try
checking if this file is read-only for you. Its worth a shot.

Well, I already resolved the problem by purging the mozilla directory. The
profiles problem has no longer occurred, even though there was several other
problems with 1.2a, resolved with 1.2b.
